As a Senior Town Planner or Senior Planner, you'll play a key role in managing and developing both major and minor planning applications across commercial and residential sectors. Your objective will be to balance the often competing demands of housing, commercial development, agriculture, recreation, transport, and environmental protection—enabling appropriate and sustainable development to proceed.
The Cordage Group of businesses works with a wide range of clients, from high-profile organisations to smaller independent developers, and operates across all regions of the UK. Ability to travel is essential, and access to a private vehicle along with a full UK driving licence is preferred.
Responsibilities:
* Cover a broad area of work applying a diverse set of professional skills.
* Develop creative and original planning solutions that aim to satisfy the needs of all parties.
* Engage and consult with stakeholders, local communities, and other interested parties.
* Negotiate effectively with council officers, elected councillors, and other professionals such as surveyors and architects.
* Research planning policies to guide and inform development proposals.
* Draft high-quality Planning, Design and Access Statements.
* Utilise digital tools and systems, including Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
* Attend and present at planning boards, appeals, and public inquiries.
* Stay informed of changes to legislation and regulations relating to land use and development.
* Schedule available resources efficiently to meet planning targets.
* Starting from £30,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.

* 35-hour working week with flexible hours (core hours between 10:00 and 16:00).

Qualifications / Experience:
* MSc in Town Planning from an RTPI Accredited Course.
* A minimum of two years' experience within a local planning authority or private consultancy.
* Membership to the RTPI.
Competencies and Skills:
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work well within a team as well as independently.
* Excellent organisation and administrative skills.
* Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
* Knowledge of planning policy and practice.
