Language Support Staff (EAL TA) - Blackpool

The Role:
We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Language Support Staff (EAL Teaching Assistants) to join our team in Blackpool or to work with various schools across the region through our agency. As an EAL TA, you will play a vital role in providing targeted support to students whose first language is not English, helping them to access the curriculum, develop their English language skills, and fully integrate into school life within Ireland.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct support to EAL students in the classroom, individually or in small groups, to enhance their understanding and use of English.
2. Work closely with teachers to implement strategies and resources that support EAL learners' access to the curriculum.
3. Adapt and create resources to meet the specific language needs of EAL students.
4. Support EAL students with their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
5. Help EAL students to understand instructions, participate in classroom discussions, and complete learning tasks.
6. Provide cultural mediation and support to both students and staff.
7. Monitor and record the progress of EAL students, providing feedback to teachers.
8. Liaise with teachers, parents/guardians, and external agencies as required.
9. Contribute to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.
10. Participate in relevant training and professional development related to EAL support within the Irish context.
11. Be aware of and adhere to school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and child protection.
About You:
1. Experience working with students who use English as an Additional Language (EAL) in an educational setting in Ireland.
2. A strong understanding of the challenges faced by EAL learners and effective strategies to support their language development within the Irish curriculum.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
4. Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting the learning needs of EAL students in Ireland.
5. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
6. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your workload effectively.
7. Fluency in one or more languages in addition to English is highly desirable.
8. Knowledge of the UK education system and relevant EAL support frameworks.
9. A good understanding of safeguarding principles and practices in the Irish context.
Desirable:
1. Relevant qualifications or training in EAL support or language teaching.
2. Experience using specific EAL assessment tools and resources relevant to Ireland.
3. Familiarity with the cultural backgrounds of EAL students in the Blackpool area.
4. DBS vetting clearance.
Location: Blackpool, UK.
Contract Type: Full Time / Part Time / Supply (depending on the role)
Salary: From 92 per day.
Start Date: 23/04/2025.
