Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team is seeking an HGV Driver 2 – OHL to support our Overhead Line (OHL) projects across the UK. As an HGV Driver 2 – OHL, you will assist and gain valuable experience from an HGV Driver 1, supporting the safe and efficient transportation of materials, specialist plant & components, tools, and equipment from the project yard to various OHL sites. Key Responsibilities: Assist in the daily running of the lorry and deliveries to OHL sites. Safely transport materials, specialist plant, and components required for OHL construction and maintenance. Ensure accurate issue and receipt of materials and equipment. Comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Work collaboratively with the team to ensure timely and secure deliveries. What you'll be doing Assisting with daily checks on the road worthiness of allocated vehicles are carried out and documented together with the reporting of any defects identified. Ensuring that any load on their allocated vehicle is correctly and safely secured. Ensuring that the vehicle is always operating within its legal weight limits. Ensure that the prevailing driver’s hours regulations (Authorised by a Company Nominated Transport Manager) are always adhered to. i.e. driving time, duty time, breaks, daily, weekly and fortnightly rests etc Ensure all driving and work activity is correctly and accurately recorded on the Tachograph or log book depending on which regulations apply. Take part in loading and unloading including use of lorry mounted cranes Always drives courteously and adheres to driving regulations that apply to their vehicle size and load, including speed and load limits. Remains security aware as goods often have high value. Ensure the vehicle is safely unloaded and the right delivery paperwork is completed. Support Operational teams as required. Maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle and refuelling as appropriate. Wherever practicable ensure the vehicle is parked at its Operating centre base when not in use. Cooperate with enforcement agencies if subject to a vehicle stop and report the occurrence. Maintains radio or telephone contact with base or supervisor to receive instructions or be dispatched to new site location against project needs. Participates in any driver improvement training or initiatives including the Compulsory Driver training (DCPC) Scheme. Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of others who may be affected by your actions or omissions whilst at work. Cooperate with BB in all matters pertaining to Health and Safety to enable the Company to carry out and enhance its legal duties and requirements. Do not recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare. Bring to the attention of your manager any perceived shortcomings in health and safety arrangements or situations that you consider to be serious or imminent danger to yourself or others. Do not undertake any safety critical work activity or activity for which a specific competence is required unless you have received the necessary training/instruction and/or assessment and hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work. Do not instruct others to undertake such work if they do not hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work.
