As directed by the Facilities Manager, carry out general maintenance duties including planned building repairs and emergency requests in and around Hospice buildings and equipment. This will involve utilising skills in carpentry and joinery, painting, decorating and tiling, installing and repairing locks/door closers, minor basic plumbing and electrical skills including replacement of faulty light bulbs, gardening, collection of materials, carrying out minor general repairs and any duties as advised.
The seasonal/ weather-dependent nature of this role will require flexibility. Times and sessions will be discussed at the interview.
Main duties:
* Assist with the maintenance and repair work required at Hospice shops and other Hospice premises whether owned or leased.
* Assist with the maintenance and general upkeep of Hospice grounds and gardens.
* Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, carry out general duties relating to the operation of heating, lighting and electrical equipment throughout Hospice premises, ensuring accurate records are kept in and in date.
* Carry out moving and handling duties including furniture moving and lifting and working at heights i.e. replacing light bulbs; carry out repairs to Hospice fixtures and fittings and gutter cleaning
* Maintain machinery, tools and equipment in safe working order.
* Assist in maintaining clean and safe working areas which minimises the health, safety and security risks to yourself and others.
* Liaise with the Facilities Manager and other members of the team as appropriate.
* Refer any personal or searching questions made by patients and families/carers to the appropriate member of staff, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
* Report to the Facilities Manager and advise them of any concerns you may have.
* Maintain professional boundaries at all times.
Communication:
* Promote close working relationships and good communication links with colleagues and volunteers at all levels throughout the Hospice.
* Support other members of the staff and volunteer teams by liaising, cooperating and communicating as and when required.
Training and development:
· Attend all appropriate statutory and mandatory training, and undertake training and development as identified through individual supportive discussions with the Facilities Manager.

* To take reasonable care of the health and safety of yourself and others that may be affected by what you do while carrying out the role, and to co-operate in the implementation of the Hospice’s Health and Safety policy.
