As a Product Applications Engineer (PAE) within the Transmission Protection, Automation, and Control Product Line (TX PAC PL) team, you will be responsible for defining and delivering differentiated protection relay solutions for product applications and software-defined substation automation solutions, driving grid digitalization and contributing to sustainable, profitable growth. You will shape and execute the technical strategy for our GridBeats iDS portfolio, both at the system and component level. Your role will involve close collaboration with Product Management Leaders, Product Managers, R&D teams, Region Growth Leaders, and regional Technical Application Engineering communities to ensure alignment with business goals and customer needs, ultimately enabling the successful execution of projects and innovation in grid automation. Job Description Major responsibilities: - Drive the release of relay applications and software-defined substation automation solutions, ensuring alignment with portfolio operating rhythms, multi-generation product plans, and New Product Introduction (NPI) cycles. - Support the GridBeats Integrated Digital Substation (iDS) system and product-level application strategy in coordination with Grid Automation regions. - Collaborate with Product Managers (PMs) on product/solution strategy, including lifecycle management, market segmentation, renewables strategy, and go-to-market plans. - Analyze and provide feedback on technical/functional requirements, technology progression, industry standards, competitor analysis, and opportunities for product differentiation and growth. - Support communication of the product offering and value proposition to Grid Automation and Solutions Regions, including training for Sales personnel and customers. - Assist with technical aspects of product launches, including manuals and technical presentations. - Address product application issues, support field investigations, and prioritize maintenance releases. - Support customer approvals of the product offering including feedback on test specifications and test results - Author and present expert-level papers at conferences, write technical articles, and support Sales with in-depth product knowledge. - Participate in industry working groups and committees (e.g., CIGRE, IEEE) and provide input to customer homologations and V&V use cases. Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or equivalent work experience. - Comprehensive knowledge of Power System and Protection Applications across Transmission, Generation, Distribution, Industrial, and Rail sectors. - Familiarity with protocols such as IEC61850, IEC 103, Modbus, DNP3.0, TCP/IP, and Ethernet. - In-depth knowledge of utility, industrial, and rail Grid Automation markets and technologies. - Solid experience in product management, product marketing, and/or technical applications within grid automation portfolios. Advanced understanding of pricing, cost structures, and product accounting - Excellent written and oral communication skills, a customer-focused approach, and enthusiasm. - Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time. Desired: - Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, assess, and resolve critical issues. - Proven ability to manage multiple projects under strict deadlines, demonstrating discretion, independent judgment, and strong teamwork. - Knowledge of Product Development Processes, especially related to embedded and PC-based software and hardware in Grid Automation protection and control systems. - Familiarity with product quality metrics and process improvement. - Six Sigma and/or Fastworks certification is a plus.
