Internal Vacancy: Station Commander – Strategic Risk
Location: Woodhatch Place, and anywhere in Surrey
Status: Temporary (18 months) with potential to become permanent

Specific Skills Required: Qualification in Risk Management
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Strategic Risk team within Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). You will play a key role in supporting the Service Leadership Team in identifying, managing, and mitigating risks across Corporate, Community, and Service operations. This role promotes consistent use of risk management methodologies and enhances understanding at all levels of SFRS.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain and oversee the SFRS Service Risk Register.
* Develop and review the risk management framework and processes, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
* Collaborate with various teams across SFRS to identify and manage risks.
* Represent SFRS on key external groups, including the NFCC Business Continuity Group and Surrey Local Resilience Forum.
* Contribute to risk assessment, horizon scanning, and delivery of the Community Risk Profile.
* Maintain operational competence and physical fitness required of a Station Commander.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Competent Wholetime Station Commander or Competent Watch Commander in the SC pool.
* IOSH Supervising Safely certification (NEBOSH desirable).
* ICS Level 1 (essential) and Level 2 (desirable).
* Full driving licence (Emergency Response Driver – car, desirable).
* Knowledge of risk management frameworks and methodologies.
