Job Title: Arborist Apprentice - Level 2
Duration: 21 months
Starting Salary: 23,926 (subject to 2025 review)
Working Hours: Mon - Fri 09:00 - 17:00
Location: Olive Grove, Sheffield, S2 3GE
What You'll Do:
1. Working as part of a small team, you'll be responsible to carry out all aspects of highways tree maintenance.
2. Use of chainsaws.
3. Tree climbing and aerial rescue.
4. Storm clearance.
5. Stump grinding.
6. Tree planting and young tree maintenance.
7. Operate light plant and power tools.
8. Drive and operate vehicles, plant, machinery as required.
9. Install and maintain traffic management systems.
10. Carry out any other duties which may reasonably be expected/requested.
11. Undertake vehicle and small plant checks.

What You'll Bring:
Qualifications:
1. Level 1 in English and Maths, or GCSE in grade of 2-3 (E-D).
2. Candidates without Level 1 in English and Maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for Level 2 English and Maths prior to taking the end-point assessment.
Skills:
1. Full driving license.
2. Basic knowledge of gardening and horticulture operations.
3. Customer care.
4. Ability to carry out specific tasks with minimum supervision.
5. Passion for developing your skills both professionally and personally.
6. Ability to operate light plant and equipment and wheeled tractors.
7. Awareness of customer care, dealing with the public and customers and or their agents.
8. Enthusiasm to be part of a high-performing team and a drive for success.
Experience:
1. Sound knowledge of H&S as it applies within the Arboriculture Maintenance operations including required competency skills certification for tasks employed to undertake.
2. General awareness of requirements regarding working on site with children.
3. Use of pesticides (desirable).
4. Use of chainsaws, including tree surgery.
5. Used to working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Behavioural Competencies:
1. Good communicator.
2. Ability to supervise other team members.
3. Awareness of customer care, dealing with the public and customers and or their agents.
Technical Competencies:
1. Personal Highways Safety.
2. Emergency first aid at work (HSE).
