A forward-thinking Housing Association (not-for-profit organisation) focused on empowering individuals to achieve stability, seeks a Data Protection Officer, responsible for managing and organising the implementation of a Data Protection Strategy within the business. Joining a team of dedicated individuals, reporting directly to Senior Management your role as Data Protection Officer would be to update and maintain a data protection strategy, to protect the company, residents and employees from privacy breaches, fraud and security threats. Offered as a permanent contract, the position of Data Protection Officer provides a competitive salary, appealing company benefits, attractive working environment, hybrid working (2 days office/3 days home) and flexi time (total working hours per week 37.5 hrs, with core hours being any time between Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm). Ideal candidate would possess expertise in Data Protection Laws and UK GDPR, knowledge of Data Security and experience in Developing Key Documentation and Policies. Candidates will be required to undergo a DBS check. Duties of Data Protection Officer: Ensure compliance with all relevant data privacy laws and requirements Create and oversee data protection frameworks and controls Foster a culture that values data governance and compliance through collaboration with colleagues Act as the key data protection contact for internal teams, residents, providers, external regulators and the Information Commissioner Process Subject Access Requests (SARS) efficiently and within required timeframes Develop key documentation and policies, including those related to data protection, data processing, sharing agreements and impact assessments Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure GDPR compliance Develop and deliver training on UK GDPR compliance requirements Inform and advise colleagues on their data protection obligations under UK GDPR and other relevant laws Support and guide colleagues in completing and maintaining critical documentation Skills/attributes required by Data Protection Officer: Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role - essential Accredited qualifications in data protection and risk management - essential Expertise in data protection laws with substantial understanding of UK GDPR Specific knowledge of IT, data security and processing operations Familiarity with risk management frameworks and systems Strong communication and influencing skills Highly organised with excellent attention to detail Location: Birmingham, West Midlands – Hybrid role (2 days Office/3 days Home working) Hours: Monday to Friday total 37.5 hours per week – Flexitime (core hours 8 am – 6 pm) Salary: £37,926.00 p.a.
