We are looking for a compassionate, energetic and knowledgeable teacher who has a passion for working with children with SEND and who believes in high expectations and aspirations for all.
The successful person will adapt learning to meet individual needs, and promote the educational, social, and emotional development of pupils. The teacher will work in collaboration with other teachers, educators, support staff, external agencies, the local authority and families to ensure the best outcomes for the pupils.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement adapted lessons and activities that meet the needs of students with a range of abilities and learning styles, primarily Autistic Spectrum Condition.
* Work proactively and effectively in collaboration and partnership with a range of other professionals, families and individuals in the best interests of pupils.
* Plan, teach, and assess lessons and additional sessions in line with the curriculum, ensuring that lessons are tailored to the individual needs of the students.
* Use EHCPs to create plans for progress against their target.
* Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.
* Ensure the ARP is fully integrated into the life of the wider school and follow wider school policies, curriculum, pedagogy and aims.
* Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school, understanding the additional vulnerabilities that may arise for children with SEND.
* Work in partnership with our SENDCO and Deputy SENDCO.
* Organise staffing within the ARP to support children in their mainstream lessons as well as in the ARP.
* Support teachers with including children with ASC in daily classroom life and wider activities that are part of the mainstream school.
* Assess and monitor student progress, providing tailored feedback, bespoke for children but in line with school policies, to support development.
* Utilise technology where appropriate to make appropriate adaptations and equip children with skills for life.
* Work closely with colleagues, parents, and carers to ensure the best outcomes for children.
A start date of April '25 would allow for handover with the experienced teacher currently in the role. (Negotiations could be made for a September '25 start for the right candidate)
About you
We are looking for someone who…
* Is passionate about teaching neurodivergent children (with Autistic Spectrum Condition – ASD/ASC, ADHD, ADD and SpLDs).
* Has Qualified Teacher Status and at least two years teaching experience (this role is not suitable for ECTs).
* Is creative, energetic and takes an enthusiastic approach to all aspects of school life including trips and school events – you must love trips – we do lots!
* Is keen to make learning engaging and purposeful.
* Is confident to work within a team – they must be a team player.
* Genuinely wants to make a real difference to children’s lives and support families where appropriate.
* Cares about the ‘whole-child’ and is committed to safeguarding.
* Is enthusiastic about their own learning and development in the area of SEND.
* Has high expectations and high ambitions for all children, especially those with additional vulnerabilities.
* Is calm and patient and has a great sense of humour; they don’t mind looking silly when engaging with children and having fun together.
* Has a track record of building excellent relationships with children and parents.
* Has a track record of successfully working with children who present with challenging behaviours.
* Is incredibly organised and quick-thinking, able to improvise and adapt in different situations.
* Is resilient and emotionally self-aware.
* Is willing to support others, as well as ask for help when needed.
* Is truly committed to inclusion and to modelling the school values and professionalism.
* Has experience or undergone training in aspects of SEND and Behaviour/Relationships such as: emotional regulation, executive functioning, supporting children with disabilities, equality, child development, ASC, SALT, OT, using social stories, therapies such as Lego Therapy, sensory circuits, understanding trauma and attachment, any other relevant SEND qualifications or training.
