Play a key role in the effective running of the city's street lighting and traffic sign operations.
Public lighting has become a high profile and relied upon service by the citizens of Leicester. We are a team of specialists responsible for the effective running of the city's street lighting and traffic sign operations and this is a fantastic opportunity to join our Operations team, to use your knowledge and skills to provide the support needed to continue our goal of providing an effective and efficient delivery of the Public Lighting operation.
You’ll be a valued member of the operations team which includes both office and onsite operations and you’ll be expected to provide guidance to non-technical team members. You’ll be provided with the training needed to ensure you can carry out your role efficiently and to the latest technical standards. You will be expected to work towards ILP accreditation and attend any relevant courses as required.
Based at St Margarets Depot, you’ll be part of an in-house office team of ten that plans, designs and coordinates works at sites throughout the city that involve the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of all aspects of public lighting infrastructure, including a comprehensive annual festive decoration program.
On occasions you will be required to work additional hours according to the needs of the service.

What You’ll Be Doing
Your primary role will be to provide technical services that include street lighting design and maintenance and ensure that correct materials and installation methods are adhered to. You will also advise non-technical service team staff members on lighting products and methods to ensure the correct maintenance and commissioning of the installation of street lighting equipment in accordance with local policy and procedures and Health and Safety responsibilities.
What You’ll Need
You’ll need experience and knowledge of the specification for Highway lighting systems and equipment. With previous experience of working within Health and Safety plans that include risk assessments and identifying hazards, you’ll be qualified to Level 2 Electrical installation. You’ll also have experience and knowledge of estimating and preparing quotations for Highways electrical works, including traffic signs and bollards. As a proven problem solver, with the ability to use your initiative, you’ll be able to work collaboratively with the team to ensure Public Lighting and Traffic Sign projects are completed safely and in accordance with contract conditions.
