Background:
Armeria LLP has wide-ranging activities, with significant in-hand and contract farming enterprises as well as environmental schemes, a rental property portfolio, house building, heritage, planning and development, and a pod building business. Set over 6,500 acres of land, the business farms both on the home farm as well as through a large satellite contract farming relationship.
We are seeking a progressive working farm manager to join the team, based near Lockerbie, but working across both the Carlisle and Lockerbie sites. The successful individual will work closely with the Farm and Estate Director to lead on managing farms as well as drive performance.
The core of the role is focused around a 2.5k ewe sheep flock and approximately 1,000 dairy cross beef animals.
Candidate:
The job will involve leading the operational farming practices, based as the lead in the Lockerbie farm (c. 1,000 acres with scope to increase) while coordinating and leading the operational elements of the Carlisle farm. The candidate will be a skilled stockperson with a good understanding of animal husbandry, growth, and management. They will also need to be able to coordinate and lead a team.
Successful candidates will be skilled in (some or all of):
1. Stock management and handling (principal role)
2. KPI tracking and understanding growth metrics
3. Teamwork and staff management
4. Record keeping and assurance
5. EID
6. Forage cropping and grazing management (working with the wider team)
7. Practical ruminant livestock, arable, and machinery operation
This job will suit a candidate who wants to be at the forefront of farming (mainly livestock) practices. The farm is one of the largest in the area and is looking to deliver a product that is not subsidy reliant, can scale, and is delivering on proper stock management techniques while seeking operational gains.
