Due to internal promotions, we are delighted to be in a position to attract 3 full-time posts for Band 5 therapists who want to work with Children across our service. The posts will suit newly qualified therapists or therapists keen to expand their experience working with children.
1 post will be predominantly based in South Tyneside and 2 posts in Sunderland, although we work across our patch as one integrated team.
Please apply if you are keen to develop your skills working with children across community and specialist settings who have a broad range of SLCN, including children with SEND and complex additional needs.
We are working with agencies and service users across systems to improve the service to children with SLCN and SEND. This includes working with our Family Hubs, mainstream and specialist education settings, local authority, and other health partners as well as commissioners.

Main duties of the job
You will have experience of working with children with a range of speech, language, and communication difficulties, and be able to assess, plan, and provide intervention and therapy within a range of settings. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to working in a multi-disciplinary way to facilitate the best outcomes for children. Our Children's Speech and Language Therapy Team covers South Tyneside and Sunderland localities. There are excellent links across the Children's Therapy staff with joint supervision and sharing practice sessions.
Key requirements: Enthusiasm for this client group, experience of working with children with SLCN, team worker, HCPC registration, enhanced DBS check, ability to meet the transport requirements of this post.
Job responsibilities
* To work as a Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) for Children's Services.
* To provide a clinical service to children with a wide range of speech, language, and communication disorders.
* To work autonomously assessing, differentially diagnosing, prioritising, treating, and discharging patients with advice/supervision from senior clinicians.
* To participate in clinical governance activity i.e. research, audit, evidence-based practice.
* To liaise with and advise other agencies/professionals involved with the patient.
* To contribute to service planning, improvement, and modernisation to ensure patient safety.
Person Specification
Physical Requirements
* Ability to meet the travel requirements of the role.
* Ability to move and handle equipment and clients.
* Car driver/owner or access to mobility support.
Qualifications
* Relevant/recognised degree qualification in Speech and Language Therapy - BSC/MSc.
* HCPC Registration.
* RCSLT Membership eligibility.
* CPD and previous experience of working at this level.
* Evidence of post-graduate training/CPD in SLCN.
* Completion of pre-registration year - RCSLT NQT competences signed off - full clinical autonomy.
Experience
* Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy clinical experience.
* Previous experience of working with children.
* Post-graduate paediatric Speech and Language Therapy clinical experience.
* Experience of treating or observing treatment of a range of Paediatric SLCN disorders.
* Experience of working with Children with additional needs.
* Experience of multi-agency working.
* Provision of training.
