Job summary The spinal service is seeking a dynamic and hardworking nurse for a one-year fixed term contract for maternity leave cover. They will be required to maintain and improve the treatment pathways for patients undergoing spinal surgery at Great Ormond Street, providing inpatient care for up to 400 children and young people per year. The spinal CNS will have extensive experience within the field. They will support the Lead ANP in delivering the service and ensure quality care is provided throughout the patient pathway. They will work closely with the Consultants and support their own clinical workload of patients under their direct support and guidance. Main duties of the job As a senior nurse, the CNS is a key member of the speciality and divisional nursing team with a responsibility to contribute to wider service delivery. They will work alongside their medical and nursing mentors to further gain skills and competencies in the speciality. They will work in collaboration with the MDT. To become a skilled and competent practitioner in the overall assessment and management of children within the specialty To provide effective clinical leadership, expertise, and advice to support the delivery of high-quality nursing care To develop the clinical skills and demonstrate competence in health assessment, initiation of treatment, formulation and alteration of treatment and monitoring of care programmes to children and young people within an agreed scope of practice To support the development of clinical protocols and care pathways for a specific case load of patients To facilitate the development of evidence based clinical practice through improvement, research, and audit Participate in the education of nurses and student nurses within the multi-professional team.
