Teaching Assistant (SEN) – Supporting Children with Complex Needs in East Leeds

Join our supportive team in East Leeds, where you'll help children with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) in schools across areas such as Seacroft, Cross Gates, and Garforth. We’re especially looking for a Teaching Assistant to support a busy, inclusive school setting, with flexibility to work at other local schools according to your schedule.
Role Responsibilities
In this fulfilling role, you’ll play an essential part in the lives of young learners with complex needs by:
* Engaging closely with pupils, providing the support they need to feel comfortable, valued, and motivated.
* Offering both 1:1 and small-group assistance tailored to each child’s unique needs.
* Supporting personal care needs, feeding, and mobility.
* Facilitating sensory activities like hydrotherapy, sensory room experiences, and other therapeutic interventions.
* Working collaboratively with teachers and support staff to implement individualized learning plans.
* Utilizing specialist equipment to help pupils engage with their surroundings and learning activities.
* Building strong relationships with pupils to foster an environment of trust and encouragement.
* Tracking progress and working with the team to adapt support plans as students grow and develop.
Who We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from applicants who:
* Have experience working with children or young people with PMLD or other complex needs.
* Have familiarity with sensory activities, such as hydrotherapy or sensory rooms, and know how to use these activities to benefit learners.
* Bring a hands-on, positive approach, comfortable with tasks like personal care, feeding, and moving and handling.
* Possess strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills to support pupil interaction.
* Are flexible and willing to work across different schools in East Leeds and surrounding areas.
Requirements
* A Child and Adult DBS certificate (we can assist you with this if needed).
* Previous experience in SEN or care settings is advantageous.
* Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate, or experience with assistive technology, would be beneficial.
* Training in moving and handling, hoisting, or first aid is an added advantage.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
