Main duties of the job Southampton Childrens Hospital is delighted to offer the opportunity to join the General Paediatric team for a versatile, committed clinician interested in a 12-month locum position. The successful applicant will gain the benefit of working in a Children’s hospital with attached medical school and tertiary speciality paediatric teams. The successful applicant will be an integral part of the general paediatric service and paediatric short stay unit. They will be expected to cover the secondary care epilepsy case load of the consultant on maternity leave, supported by rest of the secondary care epilepsy team. The successful applicant will contribute to the provision of the General Paediatric group job plan which provides acute paediatric support in the Paediatric short stay unit and paediatric emergency department, Out-patients (both routine and urgent) and on-call. Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a license to practice. What You’ll Do Detailed job description and main responsibilities Major Duties And Responsibilities Include In addition to outpatient clinics in epilepsy and general paediatrics the post holder will also participate in the consultant of the week Rota, 1:12 on-call for general paediatrics and sessions on the short stay unit plus consultant of the week. Person specification Qualifications And Training Essential criteria GMC with licence to practice Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health APLS Certification or equivalent Level 3 training in child protection Desirable criteria Specialist GMC registration in Paediatrics either already acquired or within 6 months of acquisition General Paediatric experience at Consultant level Qualifications, in teaching management or research Previous or relevant experience Essential criteria Has completed or will be within 6 months of completion of paediatric training Desirable criteria Specialty experience/interest in paediatric epilepsy Aptitudes and skills Essential criteria Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English) Knowledge, clinical and technical skills to provide a consultant led service in general paediatrics Ability to manage sick children, including technical skills Experience and training in child protection Commitment to providing a high standard of care to patients and their families Good time-management skills Commitment to continuing personal development Ability to work within a busy paediatric department Proven ability to work within a clinical team Good IT skills Desirable criteria Experience in teaching, management or research Understanding of research practice and governance; participation in audit and understanding of quality improvement processes Experience in service development A flexible personality with a good sense of humour Evidence of holistic feedback from peers and patients Living the Trust values Essential criteria Able to demonstrate behaviours that meet the Trust Values: Patients First, Always Improving, Working Together
