The Executive Officer role exists to provide costing, financial planning, forecasting, & information reporting for Royal Air Force global operations. You will cost and report on Command / VIP flights, air freight movements, and passenger flights; process payments for suppliers and invoice other Government Departments. You will also produce ad-hoc costing, track actual costs and report on other contingent flying operations, training courses, and Military Aid to Civil Authority operations. As part of the small team, you will contribute monthly on-call, out-of-hours, costing support to operational staff headquarters departments. This role is suitable for hybrid working. Job holders may work from home or another MOD site, with regular attendance at High Wycombe as required based on individual, team and business needs This position is advertised at 37 hours per week Job description The successful candidate will become part of a small specialist team of military operations financiers. The role will entail ownership of several specific financial costing and reporting responsibilities; balanced with a degree of fast-paced dynamic costing tasks that often arise at short notice. The successful candidate will be a team player who enjoys the company of a small team, but also self-motivated and thereby able to take ownership of complex numerical tasks and operate effectively on them autonomously as tasks demand. They will also be familiar with overcoming ambiguity, communicating effectively to balance the conflicting needs of various stakeholder groups, whilst also delivering high quality cost models, and managing their workload to firm deadlines. The individual should have a good level of working knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office programmes, in particular Microsoft Excel, with a keen interest in developing their foundation knowledge to a greater level. The successful candidate will be interested in the finance environment generally and eager to undertaking further developmental training, and although not essential, may eventually consider undertaking study towards an accountancy qualification. The role offers a hybrid approach to working, with ample opportunity to work remotely/from home, balanced with time in-office to learn from colleagues, undertake briefings whereby face-to-face engagement is essential, and access systems that are not available remotely. The successful candidate, once sufficiently experience, will be required to accept the on-call duty mobile, on rotation, for a duration normally spanning 1 week, in order to field emergency costing calls 24/7, which also requires the individual to be within 2 hours of the headquarters during the on-call period Person specification International Defence Training / Military Aid to Civil Authority / Hurricane & Disaster Relief Provide cost estimate support, and expenditure tracking, for a variety of ad-hoc tasks as they arise, that are likely to include International Defence Training courses for foreign partner nations, Military Aid to Civil Authority, and Hurricane & Disaster Relief missions, or contingent military air operations. BLB Activity Financial Management Contribute to the efficient working of the team through accurate forecasting, processing supplier payments, account reconciliations and reporting in support of Operations; working with cross Defence colleagues as required. VIP / Command Flight Costing Build cost estimates for other Government department, Royal, and military VIP flights, track and collate actual costs, and report the data periodically to other Government department outer office colleagues. Freight Build cost estimates for air freight movements and where necessary invoice other government departments, civil organisations and foreign partners for the use of RAF aircraft freight capacity in order to recover costs to the department. Cost model development and process refinement to update cost and financial handling Cost model refinement and development in the interest of periodic improvement to processes and handling of financial data to optimise the output of the Team.
