1. Responsible for the management of his/her team. Delegating supervising and co-ordinating the work of the other staff, and to utilise available manpower and resources efficiently and effectively
2. Participate in the setting of standards of care with senior staff, then promote and ensure a high standard of care in an atmosphere suitable for the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the residents.
3. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care within the chosen nursing model to an allocated group of residents, working within the agreed policies and procedures.
4. Ensure total care by being fully clinically involved with the residents
5. Work closely with the other members of the multidisciplinary team and other outside agencies and ensure good communications
6. Deputise for sister/charge nurse as required
7. Advise, support and keep relatives well informed directing them to other agencies if appropriate
8. Deal with complaints in accordance with the laid down policy, and inform senior staff
9. Ensure all residents records are kept well up to date, and any changes are communicated fully during the reporting at duty hand over times, or sooner if necessary
10. Ensure the safe keeping of residents’ property and valuables
11. Participate in the safe custody, ordering, administration, and recording of drugs in accordance with the professional guidelines on Administration of medicines in healthcare settings (2019).
12. Maintain confidentiality and have regard for the Residents privacy and dignity.
13. Participate in maintaining checks of nursing supplies, stationary, and other stores, making sure these resources are being correctly used.
14. Receive residents on admission, ensuring that other team members are made fully aware of the condition of the resident.
15. Advise on promotion of health and prevention of illness or deterioration where necessary
16. Be fully familiar with all policies and procedures for the Nursing Home
17. Participate in induction and in-service training of both qualified and unqualified staff. Assist in the Supervision of Student Nurses on placement development.
18. Participate in trials of new equipment and ensure that all staff adequately instructed in its use
19. Deliver care using a Person-Centred Care Approach.
20. Keep up to date in current developments in the care of the elderly speciality
21. Take reasonable opportunities to attend Course workshops/ study days
22. Abide by the NMC code of professional conduct for the nurses, midwives and health visitors
23. Attend staff meetings
24. Work within the Health and Safety Policy to ensure the safety of residents, visitors and staff. Report and faulty or broken equipment immediately.
25. Attend fire drills and be able to implement the procedure to be followed in the event of a suspected fire incident
26. Report accidents in accordance with the policy
27. To answer the telephone in a professional manner.
28. To participate in clinical supervisions and the appraising of healthcare assistants.
29. Be aware of GDPR responsibilities.
