Due to maternity leave, one exciting post has arisen for well-motivated and enthusiastic HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientists to join our team in Laboratory Medicine at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.
Applications are invited for:
1. 1 x 1 year fixed term HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist (band 5 or 6 depending on meeting person specification and experience).
The department can offer guaranteed progression from Band 5 to Band 6 upon successful completion of the IBMS Specialist Diploma. As a Band 6, you will already have an IBMS Specialist Diploma in Clinical Biochemistry.
The laboratory is well equipped and highly regarded by its users, with a track record of excellent performance. It has just undergone a positive UKAS surveillance visit and is MHRA compliant.
Main duties of the job
The laboratory is an IBMS registered training laboratory.
There is a strong training ethos in the department and as a Biomedical Scientist you will be given the opportunity for CPD.
In your role, you will undertake day-to-day analysis and validation of results, together with the monitoring of quality indicators. You will participate in out of hours shifts once trained and competent in the relevant areas. The Biochemistry laboratory has a managed service with Roche and runs 2x Roche 8000 lines with associated preanalytical modules. The Biochemistry laboratory also has a Specialist Protein Section using Sebia and Binding Site systems.
Good communication skills, teamwork, and an aptitude for problem-solving are essential, as is a flexible attitude to work and willingness to adapt to changes in working practice. The ideal candidate will be keen to develop their knowledge and skills.

Qualification
Essential criteria
* BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent
* State Registration as Biomedical Scientist with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* Post-graduate, post-registration training in the specialist area advertised, leading to a completed IBMS Specialist Diploma (or equivalent) in the discipline advertised (or working towards)
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of continuing professional development to demonstrate specialist knowledge
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Proven ability to understand all theoretical and practical aspects of laboratory procedures within the advertised discipline
* Proven ability to work within all areas of the department (automated, manual, and specialist)
* Proven ability to understand and interpret quality control / quality assurance process
* Evidence of detailed working knowledge of standard IT packages
Desirable criteria
* Exhibit knowledge of issues encountered whilst working alone during a shift
Experience
Essential criteria
* At least two years' experience as an HCPC registered biomedical scientist.
* At least 2 years' working experience in an ISO15189 accredited clinical/medical laboratory
* Detailed working knowledge of laboratory information management systems
* Maintaining the laboratory service and reporting results whilst lone working within your specified discipline

* Working within an NHS laboratory

* Possess highly developed technical skills and be adept at all laboratory procedures.
* Ability to operate / troubleshoot complex laboratory equipment including associated IT
