Main duties and Responsibilities
Administrative duties
You will be accountable for ensuring that activity plans, training plans and databases are accurately maintained.
You will be responsible for the development of prioritised workplans, ensuring that resources are appropriately
deployed as required.
Responsibility for Information
You will gather, analyse and present complex data to influence decision making and support the improvement of services. Data will include capacity, demand and performance information, surveys, referral information, service user and/or carers views.
You frequently need to use advanced IT and keyboard skills to develop and manipulate excel spreadsheets containing financial and activity information, with advanced excel skills such as VLOOKUP, pivot table reporting, advanced charting and conditional formatting.
Policy development
The work that you do may influence policy development and you may be required to lead on developing policies within the organisation which will support sustainable improvements.
Service Improvement responsibilities
Plan and support the delivery of a broad range of complex improvement programmes including:
· strategic development plans and business objectives for services
· the co-ordination and delivery of a range of continuous improvement training programmes o the organisation and co-ordination of continuous improvement events across the Quality Team
Promote and embed continuous improvement across the Quality Team to add value and create sustained improvement to Quality Team services
Ensure the benefits of continuous improvement culture and methodology are promoted across all professional groups to build capacity and capability
Support service reviews and the development of new models of care and patient pathways.
Work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels within the organisation to identify quality improvement opportunities, sharing and spreading best practice and opportunities
Lead specific programmes of work that support targeted improvement activities
Lead improvement events that are directly aligned to the strategic objectives of the organisation
Coach and mentor staff undertaking continuous improvement training
Prepare reports and case studies to demonstrate outcomes of improvement events to share learning for internal and external use
Prepare presentations and award submissions in relation to continuous improvement and promote this work through local and national forums
Quality assure improvement programmes of work, ensuring that alignment with Quality Improvement methodology is maintained.
Responsibility for financial resources
Whilst there is no budgetary management responsibilities with this role, you will ensure that resources within the ICB are used efficiently and effectively. You will also contribute to budget setting and financial monitoring for service improvement projects and cost improvement programmes.
Responsibility for physical resources
The post holder will be responsible for the physical resources in relation to equipment required for improvement events, stationery and electrical equipment e.g. laptop, camera, projector and visualiser.
People management, training and development
Management and supervision of staff as identified by the Deputy Chief Nurse
Support quality team by providing expert input, both in relation to improvement methodology and specific areas of capability
Frequently plan, co-ordinate and deliver continuous improvement training programmes to staff identified by the organisation
Plan, co-ordinate and deliver ad hoc sessions to build capacity and capability for continuous improvement methodology across the organisation
Coach trainee certified leaders through improvement events
Provide regular feedback to staff at all levels to support their ongoing development
Support staff at all levels in the organisation to examine the way in which care is delivered, how it can be improved and agree on practical proposals to deliver change
Challenge traditional working practices and professional role demarcations
Engage in personal development opportunities
Involvement in research activity
The post holder may be required to support research activity as part of the role and ensure that staff use evidence based practice to support their improvement work.
Freedom to Act
The post holder will have freedom to act within the boundaries set by the Head of Service Improvement
The post holder will be guided by broad principles and policies but will have the freedom to interpret these and take appropriate actions accordingly.
The post holder will, in conjunction with quality improvement sponsors/service directors/clinical directors plan and agree improvement activities.
Communication
The post holder will:
• Act as the Quality Team lead for specified work streams ensuring effective communication and deep, effective staff engagement in the development of ideas and projects that deliver quality improvement
• This will involve providing and receiving highly complex and contentious information in an easy to understand format to large groups of staff across where there may be significant barriers to acceptance (e.g. providing detailed information to enact service redesign and change).
• Prepare and disseminate case studies following improvement activities
• Prepare and disseminate briefings to the organisation to update them on progress of improvement activity.
Other requirements
The post holder will be required to work in accordance with ICB Policies
The post holder will be required to work across the geography of the Quality Team as required by business need
