Job Advertisement: Combustion Service Engineer (Gas Mechanical Engineer)
Location: BRE, Bucknall's Lane, Garston, Watford, WD25 9XX
Salary: 49,000 per annum
Working Hours: Monday to Sunday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (9 hours per day)
About the Role:
We are looking for a dedicated and qualified Gas Safety Registered Combustion Service Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and optimizing heating and hot water systems in a professional and compliant manner. The successful candidate will ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability of gas systems, playing a crucial role in maintaining operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Respond to and resolve issues with critical heating and hot water systems, including gas pipework.
2. Reset and re-enable plant systems after power outages, ensuring safe operations.
3. Ensure all tools and specialist meters meet PAT testing and compliance requirements.
4. Estimate time and materials for repairs and support in preparing quotations.
5. Manage the financial control of reactive and essential repairs, including accurate booking of materials.
6. Maintain site logbooks and Gas Safe records to ensure regulatory compliance.
7. Adhere to risk assessments, method statements, and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
8. Perform PPM and reactive repairs to HVAC and gas equipment, including replacing pipework, valves, fans, controls, pumps, and actuators.
9. Diagnose and repair faults independently, with reference to electrical circuit diagrams when needed.
10. Propose and implement energy-efficient solutions to enhance system performance.
Competencies and Requirements:
Qualifications:
1. Current ACS Certification covering Core Safety, Indirect Fired Appliances, and Pipework (Commercial) OR Core Safety and Boilers (Domestic).
2. City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Plumbing and Heating.
Experience:
1. Demonstrable experience with gas appliances and systems in a similar role.
2. Expertise in fault-finding and repairs on a range of gas appliances and plant systems.
Skills:
1. In-depth knowledge of HVAC and gas equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
2. Competence in gas testing and purging in accordance with IGE regulations and British Standards.
3. Ability to interpret technical and electrical circuit diagrams.
4. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
5. Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and creating method statements.
Additional Requirements:
1. Solid understanding of compliance, health, and safety regulations.
2. DBS certification is advantageous but not mandatory.
