We are looking for a Senior Animal Technician to join our enthusiastic team at the Department of Zoology. We are offering an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual to oversee the running of the departmental animal facilities, working closely with academic and teaching staff. The role holder will also help the teaching staff by supplying animals for teaching practicals and helping with general setting up and clearing away of equipment.
The Department of Zoology is a research and teaching department at the University of Cambridge and houses the world-renowned Museum of Zoology. Key to the success of the department is the in-house animal facilities currently consisting of aquaria and insect rooms which are used for cutting-edge research and undergraduate teaching at the University.
Key responsibilities include:
* Feeding and caring for fish and insects, ensuring the highest levels of animal welfare.
* Liaising with academics and research staff about their day-to-day animal care needs.
* Being responsible for excellent housekeeping, cleaning, storage, and maintenance of equipment such as filters and pumps in the aquaria.
* Maintaining meticulous records.
You will have experience working with and being responsible for the care of animals and you should be able to work with minimal supervision as well as part of a team. Good communication skills, good timekeeping, showing flexibility, and remaining calm under pressure are essential.
This full-time position requires the post-holder to work on-site Monday to Friday, and to be part of the team responsible for weekend feeding of animals (paid overtime, 2-3 hours Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 2 weekends a month and any emergencies).
