Job Details Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Sports Facilities Groundsperson on a permanent basis. Main Purpose of the Role The Grounds team are responsible for maintaining sports facilities over three sites, including six rugby/football pitches all with integrated irrigation systems, two grass cricket squares (including 14 hybrid pitches), four hard courts used for tennis/netball, an artificial surface used for cricket nets/hockey drills as well as surrounding areas and lawns. Our sports facilities are used by pupils as part of the College’s busy sporting programme, and at times, external parties, such as professional and international sports teams. The College encourages and supports development and training amongst staff to aid in the delivery of high standard facilities. General Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with preparing and maintaining pitches to the highest standards. Assist in the renovations of pitches to maintain a high standard of playing surfaces at all times. Operating and caring for the ground’s equipment and machinery. Assisting with general maintenance of landscape areas and carrying out general ground duties. Maintenance and installation of sports pitch equipment: goal posts, tennis nets, cricket nets and other equipment as necessary. Help ensure walkways are cleared of snow and ice, and safe to use in adverse weather conditions. Maintaining a clean and safe environment, ensuring pupil safety at all times. Follow the College’s Health and Safety policies and procedures. Assist with car parking and other ad hoc duties to support College. Person Specification : Level 2 Qualification (or equivalent) in Sports Turf Management or similar (or working towards it). A confident, friendly and efficient person. Positive, self-motivated and able to work unsupervised. Ability to cope with a busy routine involving pupils and staff. Ability to follow instructions. Works well as part of a team and willing to help others whenever necessary. Physically fit to meet the demands and nature of the manual work Desired Skills: A valid driving licence. Previous experience of maintaining sports facilities and looking after amenity areas. Experience of producing cricket pitches. Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, working Monday to Friday inclusive. The winter hours (which commence on the last Sunday of October) are 8.00am to 4.00pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunchbreak each day. The summer hours (which commence on the last Sunday of March) are 8.00am to 5.00pm with a 60-minute unpaid lunch break each day. As part of the role occasional weekend work and flexibility in hours will be needed to support sports fixtures and College events. Remuneration: The salary for this role will be £25,168 per annum. Holidays: 23 days, plus bank holidays increasing to 28 days plus bank holidays after 2 years of service. Benefits: Complimentary lunch is provided.
