We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic Nurse to join and support leadership of the progressive and dedicated Day Surgery Services team at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, based on Ward 9 at the Bournemouth site for 37.5 hours per week.
Ward 9 (Sandbourne Suite) incorporates an Admission Suite, Day Surgery services and Interventional Radiology.
The post holder will work closely with the band 7 to lead the team, motivate staff, help set the direction for service improvement, implement change, and role model demonstrating the behaviours expected from all the staff with regard to displaying excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism, upholding the Organisations Values.
You will ensure the delivery of high quality clinical care with an excellent patient experience. The ability to communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team is essential and required in order to build successful links between key professionals to support and promote effective multi-disciplinary team working. You will be supported in this post by the ward team, Ambulatory Surgical Matron and the wider surgical senior leadership team.
This role requires an active UK NMC Registration.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist the Sister and Matron in providing an efficient, cost effective and quality service, ensuring best practice in accordance with trust policies and procedures.
2. Take responsibility of the department in the absence of the Sister or as required.
3. Assist in the management and organisation of Ward 9.
4. Assist in the future development of Ward 9.
5. Lead and coordinate a team to ensure the delivery of effective nursing care to patients and their families reflecting the UHD Trust Values.
6. Participate in the supervision, assessment and development of staff and students through performance review, clinical supervision and teaching in a variety of settings.
7. Act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.

There is a planned move for this service during December 2025 when this role and base of work will relocate to the Poole site. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance/reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder’s home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.
