As a key enabling function within R&D Biostatistics, the Technical Capability Delivery (TCD) team’s mission is to design, deliver, and embed fit-for-purpose and fit-for-future technical solutions for the pipeline delivery teams which enable faster clinical study reporting and submissions, increased user productivity, reduced cost of ongoing support, without compromising quality and compliance. To enable acceleration and achieve our department objectives we have an opening for a Principal Tools Developer. In this role you will Work with clinical programmers and statisticians and other internal customers to understand business requirements and industry regulations Design, create, develop, validate, and maintain enterprise applications and standard tools that are scalable, secure, and usable, for internal customers Deliver documentation and trainings Provide direct support for products, including tracking, prioritization, and resolution of user queries and issues Technically lead product development, responsible for product roadmap, and manage the product lifecycle Provide subject matter expertise to cross-functional teams including participation in innovation projects, and contribute to and support the business change objectives of Biostatistics, enabled by Technical Capability Delivery What will your work look like? You will work in a team of 2-5 people on one or two projects at a time You will work following Agile methodology You will be hands-on with clinical trial and/or operational data to create appropriate and high-quality applications/tools You will join a team of software engineers, data scientists, and/or tool developers You will provide high quality and efficient code – an integral part of your work will be coding, code review, unit tests, end-to-end tests, and sharing of best practice You will own end-to-end project/program delivery, including scoping, prioritization, project plan, schedule, execution/monitoring working with cross-functional teams globally You will be accountable for Product Owner activities, which include creating the roadmap, managing and prioritizing the product backlog, estimating, breaking down the user stories and ensuring continuous feedback from end users, partnering with Business Tech teams, and driving Agile planning and ways of working, objective setting, and delivery processes Why you? Basic Qualifications & Skills: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Experience in R programming language (including Shiny) and software development, along with a proven track record in leading product development successfully, in life sciences. Expertise in R Programming: Mastery of R programming language and advanced Shiny development, including data manipulation, visualization (using libraries like Plotly), dashboard development and deployment, statistical analysis, package development, and in-depth understanding of Shiny framework, including reactivity, modules, layouts, custom input/output components, and customizing the appearance and behaviors of Shiny apps using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Competency in software development: Ability in building data integration such as integrating Shiny applications with databases (e.g., SQL databases), writing reusable code (managed in Git), testing, debugging, managing configurations and dependencies, deployment, scaling, and performance optimization. Proficiency in Agile methodologies. Communication and documentation: Strong communication skills to understand customer requirements, document application features, and effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Strong leadership skills: Problem-solving skills to tackle any issues that may arise during the product development process; negotiation skills to balance the needs of customers, stakeholders, and the team; and ability to effectively convey the vision to the team and stakeholders.
