Novax Recruitment is actively seeking a Lawyer based in Southwark on a hybrid basis. This is a contract role working full time hours.
The job:
1. Deliver a high quality, sustainable legal service that complies with the statutory framework and meets the client's statutory and contractual obligations.
2. Conduct a varied case load of all types of general litigation including commercial and residential property, contract, injunctions, and enforcement.
3. Provide advice to the Council's departments on a broad range of general litigation related matters.
4. Advise and attend Committees and sub-committees, advising members and Chief Officers, and frequently advising the Departments in relation to the Law in matters specifically relating to the work of the section.
5. Devise and implement new methods, forms, and procedures as required by new legislation, revised council policy, or generally including the review of changes imposed in relation to specific services.
6. Draft documents, prepare pleadings, and process all legal documents including agreements, deeds, notices, orders, consents, and byelaws relevant to the work of the client.
The candidate:
1. An admitted Solicitor of England and Wales, with a current practising certificate or eligible to apply for a practising certificate.
2. Knowledge of the law in relation to a broad range of general civil litigation works.
3. Knowledge of Local Government and its services.
4. Experience of managing own caseload and working with case management systems.
5. At least 2 years' experience of working in general civil litigation in at least some of the following areas:
1. Landlord and tenant disputes (commercial and residential)
2. Commercial debt recovery
3. Contractual disputes
4. Disputes arising from non-payment of community care charges
5. Inquests
6. Injunctions
7. Disputes arising from legislation relating to electronic communications and the attendant Code/regulations
8. Complex national non-domestic rate and council tax disputes/issues
9. Judicial Review claims
10. Building safety and enforcement
