There is a structured training programme for all levels of staff with internal training, case-based learning, or funding for your Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (for Pharmacists) provided as a distance-learning programme through Keele University. Training and support is also available for Pharmacy Technicians to gain accredited checking status and medicines management training.

In our aseptic suite you will be involved in the clinical aspects and final release of parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy and radiopharmaceuticals. Candidates will be encouraged and funded to undertake the postgraduate diploma.

The departments provide a range of services including:
* Providing a medicines supply service for all the wards, departments and clinics in the hospital
* Dispensing medicines for all inpatients including medication to take home on discharge
* Dispensing prescriptions for outpatients who are being treated by the hospital
* Preparing sterile doses of medicines, particularly anti-cancer drugs
* Checking prescribed drug treatment to ensure the dosages are correct, that one drug will not adversely affect the action of another, that the drug is given in the most suitable way and is the most appropriate drug for the patient and their condition or illness
* Providing clinical advice and training on the safe use of medicines to doctors, nurses, midwives and other healthcare staff
* Providing information and advice to patients about their drug treatment
* Purchasing of all the drugs used within the Trust
* Maintaining an evidence-based trust Formulary
