Job Title: Barrister – Civil Litigation / Advocacy
Location: England & Wales (North West or South of England preferred)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Hours: Full-time, flexible working hours available
Travel: Nationwide travel required, with occasional overnight stays
About the Opportunity:
A respected national law firm with a strong presence in personal injury and civil litigation is seeking a talented and confident Barrister to join their expanding in-house advocacy team. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a Barrister from a chambers, in-house counsel, or civil litigation background to take on a dynamic, advocacy-led position, working across a broad range of cases.
The Role:
Acting predominantly for claimants in personal injury matters, the successful candidate will provide in-house advocacy support across a variety of hearings, including:
* Trials (Fast Track and occasional Multi-Track)
* CMCs / CCMCs
* Interim Applications
* Stage 3 Hearings
* You’ll also be involved in drafting pleadings, skeleton arguments, and offering both formal and informal advice. While personal injury experience is advantageous, the firm is open to those with a wider litigation background who can demonstrate excellent advocacy skills and a strong grasp of the Civil Procedure Rules.
Key Responsibilities:
* Represent clients in court across England and Wales
* Provide drafting support: pleadings, skeleton arguments, and legal advice
* Mentor and support junior advocates
* Maintain a high-quality advocacy service, acting with professionalism and discretion
* Stay updated on procedural rules, legislation, and case law
* Collaborate closely with the wider litigation team and follow internal briefing processes
What We're Looking For:
* Barrister with a current practising certificate
* Substantial advocacy experience, ideally in personal injury or civil litigation
* Strong knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to manage a busy caseload independently
* Resilience, flexibility, and the ability to work under pressure
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems (Proclaim knowledge advantageous)
* A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle is preferred (travel expenses covered)
