If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for you to work as a Band 3 Senior Therapy Assistant within the therapy team here at Bedford Hospital.
The Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams specialise in complex assessment and discharge planning throughout the hospital.
The Senior therapy assistants support, assess, and treat patients to facilitate their recovery in hospital to promote a transition back into the community.
As a Senior Therapy Assistant, you will work as part of the larger MDT in order help to cover the wards within the Bedford site. You will need to be able to work in a manner that facilitates good communication and are able effectively link with multiple on site and external teams.
Main duties of the job
You will be able to assess, and if appropriate implement activities, treatments and exercises, liaising with families and the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve the common goal of facilitating a safe and effective discharge.
You will also be monitoring and adjusting treatments/interventions and reviewing patients on an ongoing basis.
High quality clinical supervision is provided for all our staff. You will be supported with your professional development and training by your team. We also offer robust training opportunities as part of the team and on a wider scale within Bedford Hospital.
This job role does require staff to participate in occasional weekend working on a rota basis. This service helps to improve the continuity of care for our patients as well as maintaining the flow of patients through the hospital service.
Job responsibilities
* To implement patient treatment working within established guidelines for defined client group.
* To assess and if appropriate implement activities, treatment and exercises in order to achieve the common goal of facilitating a safe and effective discharge.
* To order, deliver and fit Millbrook equipment, ensuring that equipment is safe prior to provision, as well as ensuring patients and carers are taught how to use appropriately.
* Independently monitor, adjust and review intervention and treatments.
* There will be administration duties within the department.
* You will be on a weekend rota and provide therapy services to the acute setting on additional hours when required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of education
* GCSE Grade C English or equivalent
Experience
* Experience of working with patients/clients in a previous job role
* Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Previous experience of working within a hospital setting
Knowledge and Abilities
* Able to demonstrate knowledge regarding the role of a Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist as a profession and how they can help improve patient care and outcomes
* Empathy, able to communicate with patients, relatives, carers and external agencies
* Ability to cope with stressful situations/ environments and with emotional or aggressive patients/carers and remain professional
* Good basic working knowledge of medical conditions and how they affect patients
