Position Overview - Industrial Electrician
GRS are seeking a skilled and motivated Drives Technician / Industrial Electrician to join a contractor who operate in the Water Industry. In this role, you will play a key part in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of control systems and variable speed drives (VSDs) across water treatment works, pumping stations, water supply works, and booster stations.
This is a hands-on role requiring a strong understanding of electrical and control systems, particularly with variable speed drives and pump control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation & Commissioning
* Install and configure control systems, VSDs, and associated control panels for both fresh and wastewater sites.
* Carry out field wiring, cable installations, and terminations for control equipment and instrumentation.
* Commission VSDs, ensuring optimal configuration for motor control, speed regulation, and system efficiency.
* Perform on-site testing, troubleshooting, and performance validation of systems to meet client specifications.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
* Diagnose and resolve faults within electrical and control systems, including VSD-related issues.
* Perform routine maintenance and repairs to ensure the reliability and longevity of equipment.
* Respond to emergency breakdowns or faults to minimize downtime.
Documentation & Reporting
* Maintain accurate records of all installations, configurations, and modifications.
* Generate detailed reports on installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
* Provide feedback to the engineering team to refine and enhance system designs based on field insights.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in controls, automation systems, and VSDs in industrial applications, preferably within the water or a similar sector.
* Proven track record of installing, configuring, and commissioning VSDs and control panels.
* Familiarity with water treatment, pumping systems, or related applications is highly advantageous.

Additional Details of the Role:
* Call-Outs: Participation in call-out duties is optional and compensated generously:
* Double time for call-outs during unsociable hours.
* Time-and-a-half for call-outs during regular extended hours.
* Travel Time: Fully covered from home to site and back.
