We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our hardworking team to grow the service and provide support to the Haematology and Oncology Pharmacy team. We are a friendly and dedicated group with a passion for delivering excellent patient care.
The post holder will be a certified accuracy checking pharmacy technician or be willing to work towards this qualification.
Main duties of the job
Our Oncology Pharmacy team aims to provide a high level of clinical expertise to patients whilst also delivering a patient-centred, compassionate and personable experience.
As an Oncology Pharmacy Technician, your day-to-day role will be to work alongside the Lead Pharmacy Technician for Oncology Services, the Clinical Trials Team, the Oncology Pharmacists, and the Oncology ward teams as well as the Main Inpatient Dispensary Team and the Oncology Outpatient Pharmacy. Therefore, this role requires the post holder to be able to communicate efficiently and effectively and be able to manage their time and workload productively in addition to being comfortable working independently.
You will be helping to provide a thorough and committed ward-based service by undertaking POD checking at ward level, supporting medicines reconciliation, and undertaking and checking drug histories. You will assist in the facilitation of discharging patients and the counselling of medications on discharge.
You will be required to assist, when needed, in the provision of Oncological clinical trials. This will include the dispensing, checking, handing out, and counselling of both IMP and supportive medications.
You will support our clinical areas with their pharmacy stock management, which includes a regular controlled drugs check and ward top-ups.
You will be required to participate in a late night duty, weekend, and bank holiday rotas.

Job responsibilities
To undertake the following at ward level: drug histories for inpatients, patients' own drug checks, and medicines reconciliations and POD checks on discharge ensuring accuracy and thoroughness. To coordinate medicines supply activity at ward level, taking into account ward stock, hospital formulary, and available medicines. To provide effective communication and coordination with the dispensaries that we work alongside. To undertake patient counselling on selected patients and to work with clinical pharmacists to ensure patients understand their discharge medicines. To undertake, when required, the dispensing, checking, or handing out of Oncology clinical trials. To help to grow and expand the Oncology Medicines Management Service on the inpatient ward and the day unit. Person Specification
Qualifications
* Qualified Pharmacy Technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification or be working towards ACPT qualification.
* Medicines Optimisation Qualification (HEE LaSE) or equivalent.
Knowledge
* Hospital work experience of at least 1 year.
* Awareness of training competency requirements for technical staff (Level 2 & 3).
* Experience of final checking prescriptions.
* An understanding of GCP and its requirements.
* GCP compliant and have valid GCP training.
