Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Deli Manager to lead our Fresh Food & Artisan Deli section. This role is perfect for someone with a deep knowledge of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and deli items, and a flair for delivering exceptional customer service in a luxury retail environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with artisan deli products and fresh foods, a strong appreciation for organic and sustainable produce, and the ability to manage a team to maintain our high standards of quality and service.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage Fresh & Deli Counter: Oversee the daily operation of the fresh food and artisan deli counter, ensuring products are expertly displayed, replenished, and maintained to the highest standards of freshness and quality.
* Product Knowledge: Provide expert knowledge and advice on our range of artisan deli products, fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and other specialty items. Offer suggestions, pairings, and recipe ideas to enhance the customer experience.
* Customer Service: Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring every customer feels valued and receives personalized recommendations based on their needs. Handle any customer inquiries or concerns with professionalism and care.
* Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor a small team of counter staff, ensuring they adhere to operational procedures, maintain high standards of hygiene and presentation, and are knowledgeable about the products.
* Stock Management: Monitor stock levels, manage product rotation (FIFO), and coordinate with suppliers to ensure a consistent supply of fresh, quality items. Ensure proper storage, handling, and temperature controls for all perishable products.
* Artisan Product Development: Work with the team and suppliers to curate and expand our selection of artisan products, including locally made cheeses, cured meats, freshly baked breads, and specialty foods. Help develop and introduce seasonal offerings and exclusive farmshop specials.
* Sales & Marketing: Drive sales within the fresh food and deli counter by promoting new or seasonal products, running in-store tastings or promotions, and assisting with marketing strategies to attract customers.
* Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all food safety, health, and hygiene regulations are met at all times. Conduct regular audits to guarantee that all products are stored and handled according to the highest industry standards.
Skills & Qualifications:
* Experience: At least 2 years of experience of working with fresh food or artisan deli products, with a strong background in managing and working with high-quality, organic, and locally sourced food products.
* Expertise in Artisan Deli Products: In-depth knowledge of artisan cheeses, cured meats, charcuterie, fresh produce, and other deli items. Passion for craft food, sustainability, and luxury food experiences.
* Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a small team. Experience in training and developing staff to ensure high standards of customer service and operational excellence.
* Customer-Centric: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong customer-first mentality. Ability to foster relationships with both regular and new customers.
* Food Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with food safety protocols and hygiene standards in a fresh food retail environment.
* Creative & Passionate: A creative eye for display and presentation, with an enthusiasm for curating unique and seasonal offerings that will appeal to discerning customers.
* Problem Solving: Ability to think on your feet, solve problems quickly, and maintain composure in a fast-paced retail environment.
Desirable:
* Experience in Luxury Retail: Previous experience in managing a luxury or high-end food environment is a plus.
* Certifications: Food Safety Level 2 or 3 certification, or equivalent.
* Culinary Knowledge: A background or formal training in culinary arts is a bonus, especially in relation to fresh food preparation and deli offerings.
