We are seeking a compassionate and diligent Pastoral Care Officer to provide emotional and social support to students. Your role will involve mentoring, facilitating well-being programs, and collaborating with teachers to create a nurturing school environment. Experience in counselling or similar youth support services is highly valued.
Responsibilities of the Pastoral Care Officer:
Provide individual and group pastoral care to students, addressing their emotional, social, and behavioural needs.
Offer confidential support to students, providing a safe space for them to discuss personal issues and concerns.
Facilitate wellness programs, including workshops and activities that promote mental health, resilience, and emotional well-being.
Work closely with teachers and the wider school team to identify students who may need additional support and provide timely interventions.
Maintain clear and accurate records of pastoral care sessions and monitor student progress.
Act as a point of contact for students and their families, offering guidance and directing them to relevant external services when needed.
Assist in developing and implementing school-wide initiatives to promote student well-being, including anti-bullying and diversity programs.
Collaborate with external agencies, such as counsellors, social services, and youth support organisations, to support students effectively.
Provide mentoring and support during key transition periods for students, such as the move from primary to secondary school or preparing for exams.
Requirements of the Pastoral Care Officer:
Previous experience in a pastoral care role, counselling, or similar youth support services.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with students, parents, and staff.
A strong understanding of child development, mental health, and the challenges students may face.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting students.
A relevant qualification in education, psychology, social work, or counselling (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Pastoral Care, Counselling qualification, or equivalent) is desirable.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
