YOUR ROLE
We have a unique opportunity for an experienced and customer centric Customs Operations Manager in Tilbury where you will play a pivotal role within our customs department, actively improving processes, procedures, and compliance across the team. This role will see you working Monday to Friday, 40 hours a week.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
Reporting into the Senior Customs Manager you will lead and motivate your team ensuring the accurate completion of all Import & Export declarations and Transit Movements while maintaining strict adherence to Quality Assurance Procedures.
You will assist in monitoring all customs operator’s performance against agreed targets, implementing change where necessary to ensure we satisfy customer needs and KPI’s and offering appropriate training and development when required to ensure all customs operators are high performers, engaged and motivated. You will identify inefficiencies in processes and drive continuous improvements to enhance productivity and operational effectiveness.
You will leverage your expertise in HMRC statutory requirements to ensure full compliance and stay up to date with any regulatory changes, train your team on any updates and share best practice. You and your team will proactively contact customers day to day with customs information to understand needs and resolve queries within 48 hours of issues being raised.
You will establish and nurture strong, professional relationships with both customers and internal stakeholders, ensuring seamless collaboration and a high standard of service.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Our ideal candidate will have substantial experience of managing an import and export customs team, ideally within a freight management/logistics environment. You will have previous experience of managing carriers and suppliers, delivering corrective actions when required, demonstrate excellent customs legislation and compliance knowledge and proven experience of leading, developing and managing a team.
You will be practiced in using government systems and applications and custom based packages such as Destin8, CNS Compass, ICE or Ricardo. It goes without saying that you will be a natural communicator able to build internal and external relationships, possess excellent organisational and time management skills and a mindset that looks to improve, challenge, and change processes, procedures and compliance that will ultimately safeguard our customers and us.
