About this opportunity
You'll be part of the z Mainframe Lab, reporting to the Technical Product Owner for z Mainframe Hosting and leading a team of approximately 12 z MQ engineers. The z Mainframe Lab manages the critical infrastructure underpinning Lloyds Banking Group’s (LBG) strategic transactional processing systems, primarily the IBM Z Mainframe.
We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead, inspire, and develop a team of backend engineers. You'll drive strategic efforts to improve agility, pace of operations, and cost efficiency in our z Mainframe Lab. The services you'll help lead, develop, and operate are core to our infrastructure and require high quality while adapting swiftly to customer needs.
Responsibilities:
* Team leadership of roughly 12 engineers, including personal development and day-to-day task management.
* Translating technical incidents into non-technical language for stakeholders.
* Incident & Change Management.
* Risk Management & controls.
* Supporting service improvements and transitioning to Agile methods using JIRA and Jira Align.
* Driving backlog prioritization of tasks and managing team capacity.
* Planning & supporting decommissioning & system upgrade activities.
* Acting as the technical point of contact for the team, developing and leading engineering product evolution.
* Supporting the Technical Product Owner.
* Talent Management – Supporting our growing apprenticeship/internship & graduate hires.
What you’ll need:
* Experience in operational and line management/talent development of a small to medium-sized team of Engineers.
* Background in the z Mainframe sector with hands-on engineering experience.
* Experience in a senior technical leadership position with full line & task management.
* Experience supporting, mentoring, and motivating teams.
* Financial services background or experience in a regulated environment is beneficial.
