We are seeking a Band 6 Paediatric nurse with significant experience at Band 5 within the field of Paediatric Oncology/Haematology. As the regional centre for Paediatric Oncology and Haematology for the North West, the unit consists of a 32 bedded Inpatient ward, dedicated OPD and day case facility and a 15 bedded Bone Marrow Transplant/ Gene Therapy and Stem cell unit. Ward 86 cares for children with life threatening illnesses from diagnosis, treatment and supportive care and work with our non-malignant haematology colleagues to provide treatment and support for children with conditions such as Thalassemia and Sickle Cell disease. This is a 24 hour/ day 7 day per week service. BMTU/ Ward 79 care for patients all over the world focusing on research and innovation within the clinical setting. We provide first in world treatment and create/ support lifesaving development which are showcased around the world. We provide Gene therapy and stem cell therapy in addition to stand Autologous/ allogenic transplants. This is a 24 hour/ day 7 day per week service. Main duties of the job To support the ward manager in implementing education, training and development strategies throughout the area for all staff groups. The role contributes to the improvement of standards to care through the development of the newly qualified workforce. To work clinically either between BMTU and ward 79 or ward 86, supporting bed management and patient flow. The role will include participating in audit and research, teaching and supporting colleagues throughout changes in practice. In conjunction with the Ward Manager, they will ensure that the workforce is fit for purpose in terms of their roles and that individual competencies are reviewed to provide a safe, high quality and efficient service. Delivery of and supporting staff in Appraisals, revalidation, mandatory training, preceptorship and continuing professional development. They will contribute to the Trust education and development strategies, leading projects as designated by the Ward manager/ Modern Matron. You'll act as an experienced preceptor and be competent in the administration of IV chemotherapy. The role requires the successful candidate to demonstrate good leadership, organisational and problem solving skills. You will be committed to improving quality of care and the patient experience. You'll provide visible clinical leadership and professionalism as you help the Ward Manager to ensure the core values and beliefs of the ward, the directorate, the division and the Trust are delivered at all times.
