Other information
The large English department teaches a hybrid curriculum of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), as per the German curriculum, and English as a Native Language (‘Englisch als Landesprache’). This means that there are many elements from the English National Curriculum. In the majority of year groups, we strive to teach prose, poetry, drama and non-fiction as well as many language and culture elements to fulfil the EFL requirements.
Students take the German central class exams instead of GCSEs and the International Abitur instead of A-Levels. The central class exam is English as Foreign Language. Students can choose between English as a Foreign Language and English as a Native Language for their Abitur. We offer the opportunity to take IB as a full course or as course candidate in conjunction with the International Abitur and we also offer the Cambridge IGCSE English Language.
