A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.
The team is looking for a motivated, organised Physiotherapy Assistant to support patient care in an in-patient environment within trauma and orthopaedics at the Royal Derby Hospital.
They must show the ability to be flexible within their working day, show initiative, and be mindful of the wider teams needs and workload.
Proven team skills are essential for this role as is the ability to work independently.
A desire to help people in their recovery and motivate them to reach their potential is a key part of this role also. Basic IT skills are desirable for administration duties.
Recent experience of working in a care setting and the moving and handling of adults is essential. Good interpersonal and communication skills are required along with the ability to motivate and encourage patients with physical needs.
The post holder will need to be able to commit to working some weekend days as part of their regular working pattern.
Working under the supervision of qualified physiotherapy staff as well as assistant practitioners and senior assistants to undertake a variety of tasks relating to direct patient care and treatment.
To assist during the therapy treatment of an individual or group of patients, performing specific tasks delegated in relation to helping patients with mobility, transfers, exercise programs and activities of daily living.
In addition, to support the physiotherapy service with non clinical duties such as issue of patient equipment, activity recording and housekeeping duties which aids the efficient running of the department.
To undertake delegated tasks, which may include practice of functional activities, mobilisation, preparing equipment for use by patients and carrying out planned treatment programmes.
To work alongside qualified staff to undertake basic assessment and treatment of patients. To treat an individual or group of patients, in relation to helping them with functional activities of daily living, mobility progression, exercise programs and regaining independence.
To liaise with other physiotherapy colleagues to provide a prioritised service during times of pressure as a result of workload or staffing difficulties and discharge pressures.
In addition there will be a number of non-clinical duties such as clerical or housekeeping, which aids the efficient running of the department.
