The Role
Reporting into the Global Head of Infrastructure, this role is highly technical and is responsible for maintaining the Server and Networking estate at all times keeping resilience, disaster recovery and capacity planning as a primary focus. The role requires experience of servers and networks and working in stressful and demanding environments. This role is responsible for managing and delivering stable IT infrastructure to core business needs in large environments.
This role will act as a touchpoint for key stakeholders in project work, IT management escalations, and major incidents. This position reports to the Global Head of IT Infrastructure.
Regular contact will be made with managed service providers and suppliers in order to facilitate elements such as disaster recovery testing and escalations for site connectivity as well as projects and support requirements.
Responsibilities
* Working with the Head of IT Infrastructure to maintain business appropriate secure systems.
* Infrastructure Escalations
* Provide guidance to Infrastructure Engineers and support teams for complex problems.
* On-going proactive maintenance of Server, cloud and Network systems
* Research and development of new ideas and technologies to improve the infrastructure
* Specification and implementation of technical solutions and infrastructure technologies to meet business requirements
* Management and maintenance of group-wide backup and recovery systems
* Management and maintenance of Antivirus and security systems
* Proactive monitoring of Network, Server and Storage systems using group standard tools
* Responding to Data Centre notifications for failed hardware/software
* Ongoing design and improvement of Disaster recovery
* Assisting in capacity planning and monitoring of storage and systems at all times
* Keeping up to date documentation of all servers, racks, systems and configurations
* Assist in development and maintenance of communication, dependency and reliance plan for system reboots and outages
* Adhere to change control procedure when working with infrastructure technologies
* Training Service Desk Analysts on system maintenance tasks where required
* Resolution of 3rd and 4th line technical and service issues, by providing around the clock on call support to Service Desk Analysts as required
* Provide technical training on 3rd line skills and tasks to Support Centre staff if required
* Escalating and owning calls that have been sent to 3rd line support in or outside vendors, returning the result and relaying resolution back to the Support centre where needed
* Document solutions and technical plans
* Participate in all Critical Issue calls while on shift or on call and drive to resolution
* Proactively use Maintenance tasks to prevent support calls when possible and relay these plans to the Support centre
* Building out software on Servers, PC’s and Laptops when required
* Development of asset management and stock control procedures
Skills and Experience
* Customer Service driven individual who understands the importance of the person and the business behind the technology
* Experience managing a team of engineers. Taking a lead across multiple projects.
* Business literate, confident and enthusiastic about technology
* Tenacious problem solver who demonstrates creativity in finding solutions
* MCSE/MCITP/CCNA certification or equivalent experience
