Industry leading UK Manufacturer backed by a major global group are looking for an Operations Manager to join their business in Chesterfield. In this role you will be reporting into the General Manager and helping him to develop and maintain a strong shopfloor culture. You will be key in big decision making for the business from an Operational standpoint.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Metal based Manufactured products & a strong track record of success in implementing and driving change and best practice on an active shopfloor.
Role: Operations Manager
Salary: up to £55,000 per annum + benefits
Location: Derbyshire (commutable from Derby, Chesterfield, Mansfield, Sheffield)
The key responsibilities for the Operations Manager will be:
1. To lead and develop the management team in order to achieve an engaged and performance focused workforce whilst maintaining a positive environment.
2. To identify and develop talent across the teams ensuring succession plans are in place for key roles.
3. Drive the manufacturing efficiency with shop flow cycle time management, controlling tack times to deliver KPIs.
4. Implement lean manufacturing methods from the yard – Kanban cells, efficient workflow, 6S manufacturing control.
5. Daily operation management control using the SQCDP review and implement improvement plans.
6. Continuous improvement champion leading site wide improvement strategy.
7. Implement best practices to reduce accidents, improve manual handling methods.
8. Work with quality control methods using 6 sigma methodology.
9. Be the site champion of productivity improvements such as energy cost reduction, variable material cost reduction.
10. Operations planning and managing day to day scheduling, long term planning and capacity planning. Continuously monitor variance and improve schedule adherence.
The key requirements of the Operations Manager will be:
1. Strong operational background with a proven track record of success – ideal in heavier manufacturing processes (Pressings, Castings, Fabrication, Welding).
2. Manufacturing engineering knowledge in work procedures, standard operational procedure (SOPs).
3. Quality controls and quality system knowledge.
4. Manufacturing operations systems and process such as SQCDP, strategic implementation of PDPM.
5. Lean manufacturing experience, ability to analyse process tack times, bottle necks, waste elimination and efficiency improvements.
6. Excellent analytical ability in planning projects and designing and managing KPIs.
7. Experience of managing change and improving organisational culture.
8. A proven leader with the ability to set an example for the team by displaying skills of delegation, motivation, self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
9. Relevant professional qualifications, such as IOSH.
10. Proven commitment to a culture of engagement and empowerment.
11. Computer literate with experience of using Microsoft Office.
