Job Title: Senior Lawyer
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £70,000
Working arrangement: Predominantly home-working
Key responsibilities:
* Providing “in-house” legal advice in relation to the organisations regulatory functions on a wide range of issues, which may include, but is not limited to, general principles of fair decision-making and the development of policies and guidance, Handbook amendments, contracts and Memoranda of Understanding
* Drafting instructions and sourcing external advice as appropriate
* Handling pre-action challenges and litigation arising from regulatory functions. This may involve managing cases “in-house” or co-ordinating with external solicitors or barristers
* Managing the organisations relationship with external legal advisors and representatives to ensure effective services and value for money
* Monitoring external legal, regulatory and procedural developments, creating relevant updates for dissemination to internal stakeholders as appropriate
* Undertaking legal research
Essential criteria:
* Solicitor (eligible to hold a practising certificate in England & Wales) or
* Barrister (eligible to hold a practising certificate in England & Wales with a litigation extension).
* Demonstrable knowledge of public and administrative law, including judicial review and principles of fair decision-making.
* Demonstrable knowledge of regulatory and disciplinary law.
* Demonstrable knowledge of civil procedure and the law of evidence.
* Experience of providing legal services within the regulatory and/or public service sector.
* Proven and recent experience of handling litigation, including pre-action correspondence and judicial reviews.
