We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Primary School Specialist Art Teacher to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive art curriculum that inspires creativity, fosters artistic skills, and encourages a love for the arts among our primary school students as well as professionally developing and inspiring our class teachers.
St. Catherine’s is a leading independent British international school that teaches 1400 pupils from 3 to 18 years of age. The school is a member of HMC, COBIS, and is an IBO world school. It teaches the EYFS curriculum and the National Curriculum for England and Wales, as well as IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Key Responsibilities:
* Design and implement an engaging art curriculum that meets the developmental needs and interests of primary school students.
* Plan and deliver sequences of creative art lessons that incorporate a variety of artistic techniques and mediums which can be continued and developed by class teachers.
* Ability to create cross-curricular and cultural links
* Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages self-expression and artistic exploration.
* Assess and evaluate student progress in art, providing constructive feedback and support.
* Organise and participate in art exhibitions, displays, and other school-wide events that showcase students' artwork.
* Collaborate with other teachers and staff (including in the Upper School) to integrate art into the broader curriculum and school activities.
* Maintain an organised and resourceful art studio, managing supplies and materials effectively.
* Stay current with trends and developments in art education to continually enhance the art program.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
* Teaching certification in Art Education or equivalent.
* Proven experience teaching art at the primary school level.
* Strong knowledge of various art techniques, mediums, and art history.
* Ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment for young students.
* Ability to support and develop colleagues to confidently deliver art in class-based learning.
* Excellent communication, organisational, and classroom management skills.
* Creativity, enthusiasm, and a passion for art education.
Person Specification / Essential Attributes:
* Creativity: Ability to inspire and foster creativity in students, encouraging them to explore and express their artistic ideas.
* Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey art concepts and instructions to young learners and play an integral part of the whole-school Art Department.
* Organisational Skills: Strong organisational abilities to plan and execute lessons, manage classroom activities, and maintain art materials.
* Patience and Empathy: Patience and empathy to support and guide students and teachers of varying skill levels and backgrounds.
* Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the wider school community to promote and integrate art education.
* Passion for Art: Genuine passion for art and art education, with a commitment to nurturing students' artistic talents and appreciation for the arts.
Person Specification / Desirable Attributes:
* Experience with Diverse Art Forms: Familiarity with a wide range of artistic techniques and mediums, including digital art, sculpture, painting, and drawing.
* Professional Development: Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with the latest trends and best practices in art education.
* Innovative Teaching Methods: Ability to incorporate innovative teaching methods and technology into art lessons to enhance student engagement and learning.
* Experience of subject leadership
