Tasks
The Business Development Manager will execute the sector-wide business development strategy, under the direction of the BDD and the I&L Sector Leadership team, in conjunction with the Pre-Construction Management Team. The role focuses on building and strengthening relationships with key clients, project managers, PQS's, and supply chain partners to enhance knowledge of future opportunities and increase the success rate of tender submissions in the Build Sector.
* Execute the client engagement plan by aligning our capabilities with target client needs, creating a tailored offering for each client.
* Develop Key Account Management (KAM) strategies for target clients, tracking long-term tender opportunities to predict potential turnover. Act as a facilitator, providing thought leadership while enabling senior business principals to maintain key relationships.
* Expedite and maintain regular contact with key professionals identified in the sector. Schedule follow-up meetings during initial contact to ensure consistent engagement. Capture individual profiles, including personal interests and potential business risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
* Engage actively with agents to understand market trends, create a geographic heat map of current and upcoming sites, and align our service area accordingly.
* Dedicate a minimum of three days per week to client-facing activities, aiming for multiple meetings per day.
* Prioritize face-to-face meetings with clients, PMs/QSs, and design teams. Supplement with phone discussions as needed, with follow-up actions confirmed via email. Bring in business principals at strategic moments, allowing them to focus on core responsibilities.
* Manage the opportunity pipeline in collaboration with the sector team, prioritizing opportunities aligned with our business goals. Evaluate potential projects based on value, team fit, competitive landscape, and our ability to add unique value beyond cost.
* For all priority bids (P1), develop a comprehensive Win Plan, ensuring we have established relationships with key stakeholders before bidding. Coordinate with BDD for pre-bid preparation and set realistic expectations for both upstream and downstream teams.
* Create and circulate detailed file notes after meetings, summarizing market insights, opportunities, bid feedback, and next steps. Distribute to Senior Directors (SDs), BDD, and the Pre-Construction Director.
* Lead the Bid/No-Bid process, aligning potential projects with the business plan and selection criteria. For qualified opportunities reaching the 25% stage, produce a Bid/No-Bid form with a detailed project overview, risk assessment, and recommendation.
