We have an opportunity for a caring, compassionate, and committed Health Care Assistants (HCA) to join our In-Patient Unit Team at our Selly Park Hospice.
As an HCA, you will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to deliver hands-on high-quality palliative and end of life care to our patients and their families in accordance with our values. You will be required to have competent clinical skills to ensure a safe environment for our patients and their families. You will also need to be sensitive to the spiritual, psychological, and social needs of our patients and their families.
Our requirements:
1. Level 2 NVQ in health or social care or show a willingness to work towards.
2. Experience of working in a care role in the health care sector and/or other care related experience.
3. Competent in English and Maths (up to GCSE level or equivalent).
4. The ability to work flexibly over a 7-day rota and multi-site work.
5. Good communication skills both written and verbal.
6. Competent IT skills including use of databases, email, and Word.

Job purpose: To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high standards of Palliative and end of life care to patients and their families in accordance with the hospice values.
Main duties and responsibilities
Clinical
1. Deliver hands-on personal care to patients including care of the deceased patient.
2. Report verbally (patient information) to appropriate team members.
3. Document care given on system one.
4. Contribute to multidisciplinary discussions.
5. To work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
6. To attend statutory training sessions.
7. To work flexibly across all areas in the Hospice if required.
8. Escort patients to appointments.
9. Be sensitive to the spiritual, psychological, and social needs of the patients and their families.
10. To convey messages and information to all team members, patients, and their families as appropriate.
11. Initiate and participate in social activities for patients, together with colleagues.
12. Undertake clinical skills as competent whilst adhering to hospice policies and procedures.
13. Be aware of and undertake infection control measures to ensure safe working environment.
14. To undertake mandatory training and yearly appraisals in line with Hospice policy.
