This established boutique law firm is undergoing succession planning and seeking a real estate partner to join their firm.
The firm was set up by partners from The City and has been on a steady journey of organic growth. It's a small firm that competes above its stature and has typically hired partners and associates from top quality law firms who are looking for a different, more independent, platform.
Partners who have joined from City firms highlight autonomy, a relaxed environment, lack of politics and high-quality work as the decisive factors for them.
Clients include high profile names, both private and corporate. Their work is nationwide rather than local Oxford work – commercial property, land elements of residential development, non-contentious Construction and estates matters. They are usually across the table from large firms.
With short and medium term succession in mind, there are opportunities for incoming partners. Due to the size and shape of the firm this would probably suit an existing partner or consultant, rather than a senior associate, but they would not rule anything out at this stage.
Skills of particular interest include:
* Commercial property
* Secured lending
* Non-contentious Construction
* Residential development (although not plot sales)
* Strategic land
A following will be needed, but they are very realistic on this and both capital contribution and billing targets are very reasonable. They value drama free financial management with no debt and a cash buffer at all times.
We would envisage this being an appealing option to partners or consultants who live in / are moving to Oxford and are looking for a firm closer to home, or indeed people who are in Oxford firms and keen to move into a boutique environment.
NB equity is not tightly held – most partners are full equity and they are looking for someone who wants that in the medium term.
