Senior Legal Counsel
Location: Belfast (Hybrid)
MCS Group is excited to assist a leading organisation in their search for a skilled Senior Legal Counsel. This pivotal role will involve working closely with the General Counsel and Company Secretary to provide expert legal guidance, mitigate risks, and uphold strong corporate governance across the Group. The successful candidate will take the lead on complex, high-value capital projects, ensuring they meet legal and regulatory requirements while driving business success. This position also involves overseeing the in-house legal and governance team, managing external legal partnerships, and effectively distributing resources. We are looking for a commercially minded legal professional with a strong track record of offering strategic legal advice, handling significant legal matters, and safeguarding the organisation's reputation.
Key Responsibilities
* Offer strategic legal counsel on high-value capital projects.
* Ensure full regulatory compliance and proactive risk management.
* Lead and mentor the in-house legal and governance team, maintaining high-quality standards.
* Oversee relationships with external legal service providers to achieve the best outcomes.
* Provide commercial legal advice to senior management and key stakeholders.
* Manage high-profile legal disputes, challenges, and transactions.
* Build strong professional relationships and support strategic decision-making.
* Champion corporate governance best practices and compliance initiatives.
Essential Criteria
* A qualified solicitor holding a Northern Ireland practicing certificate with a minimum of five years' post-qualification experience.
* At least two years' experience in a senior role, offering strategic legal and risk management advice to senior leadership, either in-house or as an external consultant to a large organisation.
* A proven ability to successfully handle complex legal disputes, transactions, and risk assessments.
* Minimum of two years' experience leading a legal team, including workload management, quality control, and team development.
* Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to foster relationships, influence key stakeholders, and collaborate effectively at a senior level.
