A number of opportunities have arisen for a Junior Clinical Fellow in Orthopaedics to join our team. The Junior Clinical Fellow appointments are to commence 06th August 2025 until 3rd February 2026. MBBS or equivalent is essential. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent to F2/CT1/CT2.
Main duties of the job
This post is ideal for candidates wishing to pursue a career in any surgical specialty as well as orthopaedic surgery. There is opportunity within this large and prestigious unit to expand on clinical, operative, educational, and academic skills which will assist in becoming competitive for recruitment to higher surgical training programs.
The successful applicant will be expected to work at a minimum at Foundation Year 2 level up to the level of CT2. The role will involve ward-based duties with opportunities to attend theatres and clinics at the Northern General Hospital and Royal Hallamshire Hospital sites once ward rounds have been completed. The department has a consultant of the week model with a daily consultant ward round. The successful applicant will have time as the junior of the week to support this ward round and aid continuity of care. For standard days, they will have a base ward which is also staffed by a ward-based team of Foundation Level doctors which they will help lead and support before going to theatre. The successful applicant will be expected to use their leadership and management skills to manage their time and get to theatre. There will be rota'd time at the Sheffield Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SEOC) based at the Royal Hallamshire Site. At The Northern they will attend the trauma multi-disciplinary meeting daily each morning.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise.
* Basic Medical Degree.
* Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships.
Research
* Interest and experience in research techniques.
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Clinical experience
* Completed F2 competencies by time of job start.
* At least one year experience in the NHS.
* Previous experience in orthopaedics.
Teaching and training
* Interest in training clinical and surgical skills.
Continuous Professional Development
* Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months.
* Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio.
Clinical governance and audit
* Committed to and understands the principles of clinical governance, evidence of participation in audit.
* Understands the principles outlined in the GMC document Good Medical Practice.
* Understands the requirements of Medical Appraisal and Revalidation.
* Evidence completion of an audit loop or service improvement project.
