The Adult Social Worker teams at Peterborough City Council supports all adults including those living with physical disabilities, older adults, people with sensory impairment or a learning disability.
We have a full-time and part-time position available, within our Community Long-Term team and Review Team. The Adult Team’s work within the parameters of The Care Act 2014 eligibility, so when an adult is identified as needing additional care, or a supported living placement, they play a vital role in ensuring they can live a fulfilling life, within those eligible needs.
As part of these teams, you would also ensure the correct funding stream is in place for those within your care, using Continuing Healthcare protocols and signposting people to areas of natural support - with guidance from the Peterborough Information Network.
The teams work on a hybrid basis and you will be in the office, on average twice a week, but not just as a mandate and for the sake of being there; you will appreciate that opportunity to get together for peer-to-peer support, to discuss ideas and speak in person with other teams (all based at the one purpose-built central location, with views of the River Nene.
If you have a flexible working request, this can also be considered, for example early
starts/finishes, 9-day fortnights and compressed hours - all of which can be discussed with your manager.
In terms of growth and job security, the team has recently created new senior Social Worker
positions. These serve as potential development opportunities should there be future team
movement (when Social Workers leave the Adult team, it’s usually to go into senior or
development roles).
The Team Managers Imaan, Elaine, Zara and Sarah are friendly, knowledgeable and bring
different complementary experiences in a variety of areas. Some of which joined the department in more junior level roles and have worked their way up through the department through promotion, so keen for their team to do the same.
As a Social Worker you could still take on board leadership elements such as running small
projects or Peterborough offer the opportunity to qualify as Best Interest Assessor and, Practice Educator.
You will find our selection process quick and relatively pain free! After shortlisting, we will aim to get you in for an interview with two Managers and that will feature a scenario-based exercise, as well as a face-to-face interview. Then if all goes well, we will extend offers soon after.
Given it’s a city authority, you won’t have to travel too far afield, but need to have means of
transport to be able to make appointments within the local area.
On the theme of travel, if you are relocating to Peterborough, we can offer a package of up to £8,000 to help you settle in the area and generous retention payments — we can give you more detail of how this works in practice, at interview stage.
Peterborough city council offer a whole host of benefits if you work for us including;
- Reimbursement of professional registration fees
- Being able to purchase Annual leave
- A policy enabling time off for volunteering
- A great lease car scheme
- 24/7 employee wellbeing support
If you are a qualified social worker and share our enthusiasm about the work we do and the

shortlisting has completed.
