Job Description
Assistant Chief Engineer
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, this supervisory position is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, projects, repair, and preventative maintenance of the hotel with a focus on improving efficiency, profitability, and service levels.
* Provides supervision, administration and development to the Maintenance team.
* Develops and implements administrative standards, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistency, safety, and prompt service to internal and external guests.
* Monitors colleague's performance and conducts annual evaluations, suggesting training available for their development.
* Distributes daily workload and projects in accordance with qualifications of staff and urgency of job.
* Makes recommendations to the Chief Engineer concerning the condition of equipment and potential problems.
* Consistently monitors and educates all contractors on site related to hotel policies, safety standards, and guest services.
* Ensures by spot checks that the preventative maintenance program is followed as it is implemented.
* Places orders for routine maintenance items.
* Assists in the repair and maintenance of premises and equipment.
* Ensures all life safety programs for the hotel are within government standards, codes, and certifications of mechanical vital components adhere to the building.
* Ensures that necessary equipment testing is done regularly (Generator, Fire pump, etc.).
* Performs inspections of guestrooms and public areas and liaises with various departments for preventive maintenance scheduling and repair.
* Be a member of the Health and Safety program of the hotel and ensure rules, regulations, and policies are being followed by colleagues.
* Perform supply and materials inventory and ordering.
* Monitors colleagues' tasks, ensuring that important daily walk-throughs are being done and raises any mechanical concerns.
* 24/7 on-call basis availability during emergency situations.
* Oversees the department in the absence of the Chief Engineer.
* Follows codes, regulations, government agency, and Company directives related to operations and safety.
* Manages shift operations, assigns work orders, and provides training to coworkers and subcontractors.
* Develops a preventive maintenance program for machinery and systems.
* Inspects systems to ensure operation within normal parameters.
* Maintains inventory of supplies and tools, ordering necessary materials to complete all tasks.
* Schedules preventive maintenance and downtime to cut business interruption and inconvenience.
* Performs repairs, emergency, and preventive maintenance, completing maintenance and repair records as required.
* Responds timely to emergency situations, requesting extra help as needed.
* Applies advanced knowledge to seek and develop new, better methods for accomplishing both individual and department objectives.
* Showcases expertise in own job discipline and in-depth knowledge of other job disciplines within the organization function.
* Coaches others to develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in most or all areas within the function.
* Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with values. Anticipates potential objections and persuades others, often at senior levels and of divergent interest, to adopt a different point of view.
* Impacts the achievement of customer, operational, project, or service objectives across multi-discipline teams.
* Contributes to new products, processes, standards, and/or operational plans in support of achieving functional goals.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
* Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a similar capacity.
* Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in English language.
* Ability to speak other languages and basic understanding of local languages will be an advantage.
* Good working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, & PowerPoint.
* High degree of professionalism with sound human resources management and business acumen capabilities.
