As a Development Manager – MG at Eddies, you would be responsible for raising major gifts of five-, six- and seven-figure gifts in support of the College’s strategic vision and THRIVE community framework. This role plans and initiates qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activity for a prospect list of approximately 150 potential major individual donors.
The role will require some UK travel and will be responsible for identification and influencing of major donors. Flexibility is a must as you may be working evenings and weekends in this highly engaging and rewarding role.
Job Responsibilities
* Manage a personal portfolio of approximately 150 alumni and non-alumni individual prospects and donors to build relationships and ensure the identification, cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship of major gifts, with an emphasis on gifts over £10,000 and ensure good donor retention levels from this portfolio.
* Work closely with the Development Director and Operations and Database Manager to set ambitious but achievable activity and income targets on an annual basis.
* Develop and implement prospect-specific strategies for cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects.
* Make personal donor visits, help organize and participate in events, and communicate by video call, telephone, and in writing with prospective donors.
* Manage the stewardship and cultivation of major donors through personal interactions, events, and written communications.
* Play a key role in the strategic planning of projects and initiatives that may deliver streams of philanthropic income to the College.
* Maintain detailed knowledge of the College’s strategic aims and educational results and ambitions to effectively articulate priorities and fundraising objectives to donors, including preparing gift proposals.
* Be the first point of contact for alumni in the prospect portfolio and a representative of the College when present at events.
* Maintain excellent working relationships with other departments and colleagues within the College and the wider University, e.g., Cambridge University Development Office and Cambridge in America.
* Ensure that effective stewardship also motivates prospective donors and enhances the College’s overall reputation as a worthy and effective recipient of philanthropy.
* Coordinate solicitations as appropriate with the Development Director, Master, and other colleagues within Collegiate Cambridge and the University.
* Undertake additional tasks as may be required from time to time.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience within a similar role.
* Proven track record of working in a results-oriented environment, e.g., fundraising, sales.
* Ability to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency and rigorous attention to detail in presentation.
* Experience researching and qualifying potential donors or sponsors and supporting fundraisers in creating prospect pipelines and cultivation strategies.
* Experience working as part of a team and cooperating with individual colleagues.
* Experience using prospect management systems.
* Experience producing reports, proposals, or publicity materials to a high standard of presentation.
* Knowledge of the principles, theory, and practice of major gift fundraising, including regulation and compliance.
* An articulate and confident manner, demonstrating sensitivity and diplomacy to develop good relationships and solicit major gifts.
* Knowledge of donors’ and charitable giving trends in higher education (desirable).
* Knowledge and awareness of fundraising systems, processes, policies, and practices, together with an appreciation of wider University and HE issues/systems that impact the role/service (desirable).
* An understanding of standards, regulations, and legislation that relate to/impact the role and team (desirable).
* Knowledge of specific/specialized software packages and CRM databases (desirable).
Skills
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, with experience communicating with a wide variety of audiences, including key stakeholders, both internal and external.
* Ability to be persuasive, with keen negotiating skills.
* High level of tact and diplomacy in dealing with confidential financial and personal information.
* Ability to disseminate complex information and strategic objectives to a variety of non-specialist audiences to convince them to support the College’s fundraising priorities.
* Proven track record of building relationships and contacts to strengthen the affinity of constituents towards the organization, resulting in generating fundraising income.
* Ability to work independently and with little supervision.
* Proven planning, organizational, and prioritizing capability.
* A flexible problem solver, able to think on their feet in various situations while interacting with key constituents and stakeholders.
* Ability to work independently and as a representative and advocate of the College at all times.
* Ability to work as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks effectively and efficiently, often with short deadlines.
* Confident in working with multiple giving methods, including current and deferred giving, non-cash gifts, and related tax implications (desirable).
* A thorough understanding of tax-efficient giving in the UK and US, ensuring that all potential donors' donations are made as tax-efficiently as possible (desirable).
* Excellent IT skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and social networking.
