Clinical Fellows in Clinical Microbiology (F3/CT level)
Under the supervision of consultant staff, the post holder will contribute to and gain experience in the prevention, diagnosis and management of infection.
The post holder will participate fully in the laboratory process, validating the results produced by the laboratory and providing clinical advice to clinical colleagues with respect to Microbiology results and diagnostic procedures distinguishing between infectious and non-infectious processes.
* Professional supervision of junior doctors on the rotation may be required on occasion.
* Participation in the investigation of cross-infection episodes and outbreaks of infection is required.
* The post holder will be expected to provide infection control advice in conjunction with the infection control team and to liaise effectively with the infection control team drawing their attention to infection control issues picked up by the post holder.
Main duties of the job
* Advise on appropriate investigations.
* Advise on and apply the principles of antibiotic therapy.
* Monitor the response to therapy.
* Contribute to the reporting of and management of infections with a Public Health implication.
* Participate in regular ward rounds and ad hoc ward visits when necessary.
There is a Monday morning hand-over meeting and a weekly Infection MDT at which all clinically relevant cases are discussed. The post holder is expected to prepare for and attend these meetings.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or Equivalent medical qualification
* GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
Experience
* Provides evidence of clinical background and effective communication regarding medical topics with clinical teams and/or patients
* Demonstrates ability to problem solve
* Experience demonstrated in microbiology and/or infectious disease
* Experience of working in the NHS
Skills
* Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement and prioritise clinical need.
* Demonstrates appropriate technical and clinical competence and evidence of the development of diagnostic skills and clinical judgement.
* Evidence of participation in risk management
* Evidence of experience in teaching others
